Marae Waiata Poi Specialist Whāea Alison Hucke

What a surprise we got four weeks ago when Whāea Alison Hucke came to Marae Waiata with her double long poi. She then proceeded to demonstrate a skill she learned when she was 4 years old, while her father was helping to build the Waiwhetu Marae in Lower Hutt. Whāea (Whāea means mother relationship, term of respect and endearment) Alison has been helping all of us learn the simple and finer aspects of poi. Ngā mihi ki a koe Whāea. So come along to learn and have some fun doing poi, tititorea (stick games), waiata and very soon kapahaka.

Marae Waiata is held every Tue 6pm to 7pm at the Cambridge Community Marae.

All ages welcome
